After the lathe went out of production in early 1990, there was a gap until its reintroduction in 1996 as the Taiwanese-built Unimat 4. Unfortunately, this lathe (painted all grey) had no provision to mount a vertical column on the rear of the bed and both its accuracy, and the fit and finish of the major components, was the subject of complaints.

The Unimat DB/Sl model was first introduced here ( North America ) in the mid 1950's by Emco .This precision miniature Table Top Machining Lahte/Mill was made in Austria and sold world wide in the hundreds of thousands until production ceased in 1977. It's replacement the Unimat-3 was made between 1976 and 1990.
